What is the Summer Swim Team? The Windsor Bluefins Summer Swim Team is a fun and competitive program designed to help swimmers improve their skills, build confidence, stay active, and enjoy being part of a team during the summer season.

Who can join? We welcome swimmers ages 5 to 18 years old. Swimmers should be comfortable in the water and able to participate safely in practices, recommened being able to swim 1 length of the pool.

What programs are offered?   We offer two programs: Mini Fins and Bluefins please look at website for detailed descripitions of each! 

When does the summer season run? The summer swim season typically runs throughout the summer months. Specific start and end dates, practice schedules, and meet information will be shared before the season begins.

How often are practices? Practice schedules vary depending on the swimmer’s group and age level. Families will receive a detailed practice schedule once registration is complete.

Swim Meet Information Are swim meets mandatory? No. Swim meets are encouraged but participation is optional. Meets are intended to be fun, supportive, and a great opportunity for swimmers to challenge themselves and celebrate their progress.

What is a swim meet? A swim meet is a friendly competition where swimmers race in different events and strokes against swimmers from other clubs. Meets help swimmers build confidence, sportsmanship, and racing experience.

How are swimmers entered into meets? Coaches will select events based on the swimmer’s age, experience, and readiness. Families will receive meet information and deadlines ahead of time.

What should my swimmer bring to a meet? Recommended items include: Team swimsuitGoggles (extra pair recommended), Towel, Water bottle, Healthy snacks , and lunch. Team shirt or warm clothingSunscreen and hat for outdoor meets ,Folding chair or blanket for families.

When should swimmers arrive? Swimmers are expected to arrive before warm-ups begin. Arrival times and meet timelines will be shared in advance.

What are warm-ups? Warm-ups allow swimmers to prepare for racing by getting comfortable in the pool, practicing starts and turns, and loosening muscles before events begin.

Can parents help at swim meets? Yes! Parent volunteers are very important to the success of swim meets. Volunteer opportunities may include: Timing Heat sheet sales Concessions Marshalling swimmers Set-up and clean-up No prior experience is necessary, and training is provided through an online course (Timer course) and in person courses!!    

What is expected from swimmers at meets? Swimmers are expected to: Listen to coaches and officials Demonstrate good sportsmanship Cheer on teammates Respect all athletes, volunteers, and facilities Try their best and have fun

What if my swimmer is nervous? Feeling nervous before races is completely normal. Coaches and teammates work together to create a positive and encouraging environment where swimmers can learn and grow at their own pace.


Common Swim Team Terms:
Heat: A group of swimmers racing the same event at the same time.
Lane:The designated section of the pool each swimmer races in.
Event: A specific race defined by stroke and distance (example: 50m Freestyle).
Relay: A team race where multiple swimmers each complete part of the race.
Personal Best (PB) :A swimmer’s fastest recorded time in an event.
Disqualification (DQ) :Occurs when a swimmer breaks a stroke or race rule.
Stroke: The style of swimming used during a race: Freestyle Backstroke Breaststroke Butterfly
Individual Medley (IM): A race where one swimmer completes all four strokes in a specific order. (Butterfly, Back, Breast, Free) Split: A recorded time for part of a race.
Seed Time :A swimmer’s submitted time used to place them in heats.
Timers: Volunteers who use stopwatches or timing systems to record race times.
Marshal: A volunteer who helps organize swimmers before races.
Warm-Down: Easy swimming completed after races to help recovery.
Scratch: When a swimmer withdraws from an event.

How will communication be shared? Team communication may include email, social media, or group messaging. Families will receive updates about practices, meets, weather cancellations, and special events throughout the season.

How do I register? Registration details, payment information, and deadlines will be shared through the Windsor Bluefins communication channels.
